This song has been bounced around for years in one form or another going back to when Sean and I were a two piece. We wanted to release a bluesy southern album filled with black keys influenced tunes. This is one of those songs hence the name "gumbo". The other songs for that concept album were never finished.

Around the time we wrote parts for the song we thought it would be cool to have a couple of other bands collaborate on a recording together where all of us brought a song to the table and all three bands would play one long song together. Each with their own vibe but making a unique song together made up of 3 different songs. That's why the end of this song sounds completely different than the beginning. It was actually two songs together that we kind of chopped up during final pre production. Unfortunately the project never saw the light of day, not very "big boy" I know, but we had to record this song.
Gumbo has a completely different feel than most of the other GOMI stuff but we really love this song. Sleeper.
