I was recording and producing some songs for my friend Zach Bird. I wanted to experiment with producing his song “What doesn’t kill us”. So I said “hey let’s see how many different versions of this song we can create using the same chords and progressions” and we recorded and shared back and forth over the phone.

When I created my version it ended up sounding completely different than what Zach wanted to play and more like a Gomi tune. I dug it a lot, so I asked him if I could keep the song for Gomi. The cool guy that he is he said “sure man”. In the end my version only really kept the chord progression played differently and the phrase “hurts like hell”.

When I wrote it the song was slow. When we went to track drums Jamie said “isn’t this song a party? Let’s speed it up, it’s a party after all”.

This tune is about two people going to a party and one person really likes the other. The other person takes off as soon as they arrive and leaves the other alone. Dick move Shaniqua.
